Course Aim
Students gain comprehensive knowledge of health conditions and their healing during treatments within the Health Care Aide (HCA) industry.

Those actively pursuing Health Care Aide training as part of their life-long career journey, and to provide the opportunity for students to develop the skills required to provide personal support services to clients and their families, and residents in the community, at home, and in long-term care facilities and institutions.

Integrated Learning™ System Plus training facilitated by Academy of Learning Career College facilitators.

Course Introduction

Healing Mobility and Home Support introduces the importance of using the body correctly when performing daily activities, physical and mental well-being, the Health Care Assistant’s (HCA) role in home management, and how to make beds (including linen care). This course includes class and supervised laboratory experiences that assist the student to integrate theory from other courses to develop care-giver skills that maintain and promote the comfort, safety, an independence of individuals in community and facility contexts.


Course Prerequisites

Completion of Healing Basics.

Course Notes

Students are supplied with text books for ongoing reference. In addition to daily quizzes, presentations, individual and group projects, and chapter exams, there is a final exam upon completion of the course. Students must achieve a mark of 75% to successfully complete the course.


Course Breakdown

Body Mechanics: Moving, Positioning, Transferring, and Lifting the Client: Describing how good body alignment and position changes are good for the client, and demonstrating how to move a client in a bed

Exercise and Activity: Describing the complications of bed rest and how to prevent them, and describing the devices used to support and maintain body alignment

Home Management: Describing why home management is important, and explaining the Healthcare Assist’s role

Beds and Bed Making: Describing different types of beds and how to make them, and discussing linens and bed making under many situations and circumstances
